Submission Guidelines

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
Moonday Mag welcomes all writers and especially hopes to promote emerging and underrepresented voices. We're interested in all things wondrous, fantastic, curious, strange, otherworldly, and chilling. Take a look at our about page and the work we have previously published to get a better sense of what we're looking for. Please send us anything that will keep us up at night, in the best way possible.
SUBMISSION FEES:
We know how it feels to want your art to be seen, and hosted in a safe space for your audience. Because of this, submission is free! Donations are always welcomed to keep the lights on around here, and physical magazine sales go directly toward printing costs and site maintenance. ♡
DEADLINES:
Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis and will be considered for all issues of the magazine, so don't worry––if your submission isn't acknowledged before the following issue, it is still in the running! You will receive a response anywhere between 3 days and 3 months. (For a quick response, keep an eye on our Instagram for specific submission calls.)
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:
Email: moondaymag@gmail.com with subject line: "[fiction/nonfiction/poetry/art] submission"

In the body of your email:
– full name
– short bio + any email/social media/websites you would like to include
– if your submission is a reprint, and where it has been previously published

Formatting:
– file name: "LastName_FirstName_Title"
– prose: under 4,000 words in standard manuscript formatting
– poetry: up to 5 poems not exceeding 10 pages collectively
– art: up to 10 high quality (300 DPI preferred) images

All written work should be sent in an editable file (.doc etc). We may modify typeface and size as needed for spacing and aesthetic purposes, but we will never interfere with your stylistic choices.
SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSIONS:
We welcome simultaneous submissions and previously published work, but please be diligent in following the reprint rules of other publications. If you would like to withdraw your submission from our potentials pool, please reply to your original submission email and add "submission withdrawal" to the subject line.
COMPENSATION:
Moonday Mag is a not-for-profit operation being paid for out of pocket by a wee lass who just loves a good folktale. So at this time, we cannot offer compensation to our artists, but we do offer a lifelong home for your piece, as well as a nomination for both the Pushcart Prize and Best of Net!
OTHER BITS AND BOBS:
Plagiarism and AI-assisted work... don't do it. Moonday Mag receives first electronic rights to your previously unpublished pieces and one-time rights for reprints, as well as non-exclusive electronic archive rights (you consent to us posting your work on social media, hosting it online, and publishing it in the digital magazine). After publication, all rights revert back to the author. If your work gets published later (and we hope it does!), please acknowledge Moonday Mag as the first place of publication.

Thank you for trusting us with your work!
